SEEDS, SOUND & SAWDUST - APRIL NEWSLETTER

To my fellow wanderers, dreamers, and makers,

🌿Happy Spring!

It’s been a little while since I’ve sent one of these out—so if this lands in your inbox like a forgotten seed sprouting after a long nap… well, that feels about right!

Now, as spring surrounds us, another season of change is unfolding. We’re invited to witness the movement of these natural cycles—and to remember that they live in us, too.

This is a time of sowing seeds, birthing new ideas, and finding ways to nourish ourselves. Soon, we’ll be basking in the warmth and radiance of summer—with its outward abundance and the inner fullness it reflects.

🌿What new ideas are stirring in you?
🌿 What wants to bloom?
🌿 What needs tending?

Let this be a season of curiosity. Let your heart speak, and see what grows when you truly listen.

And as you care for what’s emerging—practice gentleness. Offer yourself the same tenderness you would a small, fragile seed just starting to break through the soil. Trust its wisdom. Trust yours.

Sending you all so much love,

Matthew <3

🔨 FEATURED WORKSHOP: Intro to Power Tools

Saturday, April 26 — 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM
📍 Horn Farm Center (York, PA)

A few years ago, I found myself in the Smoky Mountains building a yurt to residential code with my own two hands. It wasn’t always graceful—but it sparked a love for creative problem-solving, earthy living, and learning by doing.

Since then, I’ve explored permaculture, DIY furniture, natural building, and reimagining how we live. I care deeply about sustainability, affordability, and designing spaces that support connection and well-being.

It’s not about being an expert—it’s about staying curious, building with heart, and making skills more accessible for everyone.

✨ What if your hands know more than you think?
✨ What could you build if you gave yourself permission to begin?

Now, I’m teaming up with my dear friend, Alexandra—a wildly skilled maker with a huge heart and bold vision. Trained in woodworking, carpentry, and design through Lohr School of Woodworking and Yestermorrow, she brings deep care and creativity to every project. Her passion for building community through craft adds a spark to everything we do.

Together, we’re creating a warm, beginner-friendly environment where you can learn, experiment, and have a good time doing it.

You’ll leave with:

  • Confidence using basic power tools

  • Real-world experience building something meaningful

  • A deeper sense of empowerment and possibility

  • New friends and good energy

✨ 1-on-1 Sound Healing w/ Energy Work

How is a 1-on-1 Sound Session different than a group meditation?

  • Individual sessions allow us to really work with any specific intentions, themes or energies that may be surfacing in your life at this time. You’ll be in a safe space to honor what comes up, and we will use a combination of sound, energy work and the power of intentions to help clear it.

  • Benefits from receiving sound through the auditory system as well as the physical sensations of vibrations through the body (If comfortable, we can place various instruments - singing bowls, tuning forks, and even the large frame drum on the back for a sonic drum massage)!

  • At the end, we’ll have time for processing and integrating anything that may come up during the session

If you’re looking to dive deeper into your journey of self-healing, reach out with me to schedule something!

🌳 FROM THE WORKSHOP / LIFE IN THE GRAIN

This past year has been a full-time remodel—hands-on, humbling, and healing. After leaving the land we were care-taking, the kids and I joined up with family again at my mom’s—returning to a slower, more interwoven rhythm of multigenerational living.

Together, we began the full transformation of her basement—dreaming, designing, and rebuilding from the ground up. While I’ve been doing the bulk of the hands-on work, it’s been a shared effort—my mom supporting us in countless ways, and the kids jumping in with small but mighty contributions whenever they could.

It’s been an organic process—led by intuition as much as necessity. From demo to rebuild, choosing every element with care, tuning into the psychology of spaces and how it could best hold us. We created a new bedroom, converted a storage space into a flexible living area, and slowly shaped the layout to support both daily life and deeper rest.

What started with flooding and black mold turned into a full rebuild: new framing, plumbing, electrical, drywall, flooring, paint, lighting, trim, a bathroom, and a kitchen. Room by room, we've been creating a cozy, light-filled space where we can land, root, and grow.

This week’s project is one of the final touches: a custom barn door made from beautifully streaked poplar boards. Each piece carries its own character—like watercolor on wood.

If you’re into behind-the-scenes snapshots, grain patterns, or the occasional chaotic workbench, I’ve been sharing sneak peeks and stories over on social:

✨Until Next Time

Thank you for walking this path with me. Whether you come to sit in sound, pick up a tool, or simply read along—I’m grateful you’re here.

Wishing you deep breaths, soft light, and the sense that something tender is beginning.

Waking gently with the season,
—Matthew
